| Nga mihi o te wa ki a koe me to whanau Greetings to you and your family
The last two weeks have been about celebrating student success in the classroom, sports fields and cultural stage.
The Senior Academic prize giving was a wonderful event with many students being rewarded for their effort and achievements, predominantly in the classroom. Stephanie Peterson was awarded the Dux for 2009. This award is the most prestigious award schools can offer as it recognises the highest achieving student in the school. Stephanie achieved this award through a mixture of talent and more than anything else sheer hard work.
We were lucky enough to have Michael Johnson (Magpies and Hurricanes rep) present awards at our sports prize giving. Once again I was impressed with the quality of our sports teams and individuals and the level of success achieved this year. A special congratulation’s goes to Emma Kay who achieved the award for top overall sports person. Emma participated in many sports throughout her time at the college and made the most of the opportunities she was given. Once again through participation and hard work she was able to achieve success.
On Thursday we held the Art’s Show Case and Art’s awards. This was an entertaining evening and highlighted the rich talent and fantastic opportunities available at William Colenso. Lastly I would like to congratulate our new student leaders for 2010. We have a large group of talented and mature students, who will lead our student body in the sports, cultural, environmental and academic fields next year. Our student leadership group will be led by Head Boy Alex Petherick, Head Girl Chloe Katene, Deputy Head Boy Jordan Young and Deputy Head Girl Lizzie Ghio-Tuita.
I am looking forward to celebrating the achievements of our Middle School students during our Middle School prize giving on the 7th and 8th December.
